1978年以来，经由前后相继并有所重合的“引进、复制和与国际接轨等”阶段，中国的哲学社会科学获得了突飞猛进的发展，其既表现在学科建制、精品论作和优秀学者等统计学意义上的增长，更表现为社会科学回应国家和社会发展需求的能力日渐提高，表现为社会科学国际对话能力的提升等。据教育部的不完全统计，仅“九五”和“十五”期间，中国高校哲学社会科学共发表学术论文300余万篇，出版学术著作30余万部，举办国际学术会议约7000次，参加国际会议20万多人次，有800余部以中国学者为第一署名作者的论作被翻译成外文。
尽管中国哲学社会科学取得了巨大成就，在“国际化”的努力上也取得了良好成效，但距其真正确立在世界学术中的相应地位仍任重道远。这仅从SSCI来源期刊统计便可见一斑。在2007年SSCI收录的1962种期刊中，涉及中国问题和中国研究的期刊只有11种，其中只有两种为中国大陆地区学术机构创办和主持，这在一定程度上也说明了中国社会科学的国际化水准有待提升。
基于此，经教育部批准，我们特主办“学术期刊与走向世界的中国研究”国际学术论坛，围绕如下议题进行研讨：（1）如何在全球化的学术生产框架中推进中国深度研究，认识、解释和探究中国30年发展过程中的独特智慧，把凝结了中国发展模式的理论创见介绍给世界，使中国的哲学社会科学走向世界；（2）如何建设一批高水平的、国际上知名的“中国研究”学术期刊，使得中国深度研究更为迅捷地走向世界； （3）学术期刊如何在哲学和人文社会科学的学术发展中发挥作用。
同时，本次论坛将正式创建“中国研究”国际学术系列论坛，论坛每年举行一次，由加入的期刊编辑部轮流主办。本次论坛为“中国研究”国际学术系列论坛创始论坛。
一、论坛形式：圆桌式讨论，设置基调讲演、主题发言和自由讨论等形式
二、论坛基调演讲：联合国教科文组织国际社会科学委员会主席Gudmund Hernes教授
三、邀请嘉宾：
1、海内外中国研究（中国学）领域的知名学者；
2、国际“中国研究”（中国学）的优秀刊物，尤其是SSCI刊物主编；
3、国内优秀刊物的主编。
